Surfshark Group accelerates expansion with strategic acquisition of Optery
Surfshark Group has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in Optery, a US-based data removal company specializing in removing personal information from search engine results, data brokers and people-search sites.

The acquisition marks the second strategic acquisition for Surfshark Group, following the 2024 acquisition of Ironwall, a data-removal service dedicated to public sector officials, government employees and executive teams.

Optery joins Surfshark Group’s ecosystem of privacy and security brands, which includes Incogni, Ironwall and HeyPolo. The acquisition strengthens the group’s capabilities in personal data protection, bringing Optery’s specialized scanning technology, detailed screenshot reporting and extensive US data broker coverage into the wider ecosystem.

The move comes as the need for greater control over personal data continues to grow, particularly in an AI-driven landscape. By expanding its data removal capabilities, Surfshark Group aims to strengthen individual security against evolving digital threats while creating new opportunities for innovation across its privacy and cybersecurity offering.

Vytautas Kaziukonis, founder and chairman of the board at Surfshark Group
“At Surfshark Group, our goal is to empower people to take full control of their digital lives. With Optery on board, we’re further expanding our personal data protection capabilities and unlocking exciting new potential for innovation.”

For Optery, joining Surfshark Group brings an opportunity to combine its expertise with the capabilities of other privacy-focused companies within the ecosystem.

“Joining the Surfshark Group is an exciting milestone that reflects a strong shared commitment to prevent cyber and physical threats with personal data removal,” said Lawrence Gentilello, CEO and founder of Optery. “By pooling our knowledge with Incogni, Ironwall, and Surfshark, we can collaborate extensively to deliver even greater protection for our users.”

The acquisition also strengthens the group’s broader personal data protection offering. Incogni brings global scale, while Optery contributes deep expertise in the US market and its specialized approach to identifying and removing personal information.

Darius Belejevas, CEO of Incogni
“Our goal has always been to give people absolute control over their digital footprint. With the acquisition of Optery, we are doubling down on its mission to tackle the root cause of scams and privacy violations – the widespread monetization of personal data. With Optery’s deep US-market expertise and Incogni’s global scale, we will be able to create an unmatched defense for everyday internet users.”

Independent companies within one group

Optery will continue to operate as a standalone company within Surfshark Group. The company will maintain its own team, client base, technical architecture and features, as will Incogni and Ironwall.

The autonomous structure allows the individual brands to continue developing independently while being part of the same wider cybersecurity and digital privacy ecosystem.
